Julie M. (Kudlacek) Lisso passed away in Ballinger on Friday, August 14, 2015 at the age of 104. She was born May 22, 1911 to Joseph and Marie (Bubenek) Kudlacek in Runnels County. She attended Groenwald School and played on the winning women’s basketball team in 1928.
She married Arthur A. Lisso on November 2, 1929 in Rowena and they celebrated 62 years of marriage before he passed away on August 8, 1992. She was also preceded by her parents; her son, Erwin R. (Bud) Lisso; her daughter, Evelyn L. Richardson; and a brother, Ed Kudlacek and his wife, Ella.
Julie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena as well as St. Ann’s Altar Society. She was a long time and active member of the Lowake Home Demonstration Club. She was well known for her sewing abilities, making all of her daughter’s clothes, with the exception of her wedding dress. She also made lots of dresses, shorts and jackets for her granddaughters. She enjoyed making kolaches and cream pies but would have rather been outside, helping with the livestock and farming and gardening.
Julie is survived by her daughter-in-law and caregiver, Frances Lisso of Rowena; four granddaughters (“her girls”, who spent so many weeks out on the farm and learned so much), Susan Harney and husband, Jerry, of Wolfforth, Paula Reed and husband, Raymond “Bubba,” of San Angelo, Betty Johnson and husband, Clark, of Seguin, and Tricia Varquera and husband, Hector, of Saginaw; 8 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great granddaughters.
There will be a visitation at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger on Sunday, August 16 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm with a Rosary following at 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, August 17, 2015 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena with Fr. Ariel Lagunilla celebrating. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Rowena.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Ballinger Healthcare and Rehab Center and to Ballinger Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Joseph Building Fund, Lowake Community Center or a favorite charity.
