Daisy Viola Forester Chandler, longtime and well-known resident of Ballinger, passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Ballinger Memorial Hospital at the age of 96.
Daisy was of Indian-Scottish decent, born July 16, 1912 in Bryan County, Oklahoma, near Caddo. Her parents were James Allen and Agnes Lova (Folsom) Council, both of whom were recorded as one-half Choctaw Indians and lived in the Indian Territory of Oklahoma. Mrs. Chandler graduated from Durant, Oklahoma in 1929 and, up until her marriage, was a resident of Oklahoma.
Daisy V. Council was married to Joe A. Forester August 4, 1935 at Quanah, Texas. The couple moved to Ballinger August 1, 1944 where Mr. Forester was employed as Ballinger High School principal until his retirement in 1968. She served as secretary to the Runnels County Judge for 14 years. After Mr. Forester’s death Daisy married Dr. Oren Chandler in March of 1997 in Ballinger. Dr. Chandler preceded her in death December 20, 2001. She had been a resident of Runnels County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for the past several years.
Mrs. Chandler was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ballinger, a past president of the Ballinger Woman’s Club, Past Matron of the Ballinger Chapter #266, Order of the Eastern Star and held several grand appointments in the Grand Chapter of Texas. She was also Past Mother Advisor of Ballinger Order of Rainbow for Girls.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and a sister, Ella A. Kirkpatrick.
She is survived by a nephew, Howard Council and wife, Genevieve of Lawton, Oklahoma; stepchildren, Sarah Virginia Chandler of Ballinger and Charles Chandler and wife, Martha, of San Antonio.
There will be a time of visitation for family and friends Thursday, February 26 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 27 at 10:00 a.m. at Lange Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bobby Broyles officiating. Burial will follow in Ballinger Evergreen Cemetery.
