Helen Marie Hovorak of Ballinger passed away Friday, February 27, 2009 at Ballinger Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 80.
Helen was born April 18, 1928 in Paint Rock to Hugh and Lillie (Scaggs) Bishop and graduated from Paint Rock High School in 1945. On August 10, 1950 she married Joseph Paul Hovorak in Ballinger, and the couple farmed in the area for many years. Mr. Hovorak preceded her in death August 12, 1986. In addition to her roles as hard-working farm wife and loving homemaker for her family, she operated several car washes. She enjoyed shuffleboard and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ballinger.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; a brother, James Bishop; and two sisters, Billie Jean Marcigliand and Patsy Flint.
Helen is survived by her son, Keith Hovorak, and sisters, Dorothy Rogers and Peggy Ronchi. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including Gayle Hovorak, her longtime and devoted caregiver, of San Angelo.
The family will receive friends during visitation on Sunday, March 1 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. Funeral services will be Monday, March 2 at 10:00 a.m. at Lange Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bobby Broyles officiating. Pallbearers will be Alvin Hallmark, Alvin Gerngross, Darrell Henderson, Donald Paske, Randy Flint and Mark Lee. Burial will be in Rowena Evergreen Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Ballinger First Baptist Church, to the Carnegie Library or a favorite charity.
