Velma Pauline Wells, age 84, of Concho County, Texas passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2009 in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Pauline was born September 29, 1924 in Concho County, the daughter of Lyle and Leona Moseley. She attended Abilene Christian College where she met Thomas Edsel “Ed” Wells. She and Ed married on March 11, 1944 and were married for 59 years until his passing in 2003.

Pauline and Ed moved their family several times, living in Abilene, Ft. Worth, Houston, Midland, and Oklahoma City. In 1984 she and Ed retired to Pauline’s beloved home of Concho, Texas. The couple was instrumental in restoring the Concho Cemetery, transforming it from pasture-like condition to a picturesque rural cemetery.

Pauline spent her life in service to others. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Pauline was an active member of the Church of Christ and was a dedicated community servant in the Concho area where she generously gave of her time and resources. In 2000 she was inducted into the Concho Valley Senior Hall of Fame for outstanding community service and inspirational leadership. The consummate hostess, Pauline made everyone feel at home with her grace, loving spirit, and unbounded energy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, Vashti Riley, and a brother, Alton Moseley.

Pauline, now at home with her loving Savior, is survived by two sons, Wayne Wells and wife, Karen, of Oklahoma City; Dwayne Wells and wife, Karen, of Baytown, Texas; four grandchildren, Susannah Bebee and husband, Ryan, of Oklahoma City; Emily Belisle and husband, Jeff, of Oklahoma City; Brian Wells and wife, Kathy, of Baytown; Tony Wells of Baytown; and four great-grandchildren, Rebecca Shae Wells of Baytown; Shawn and Clara Bebee, and Luke Belisle of Oklahoma City.

Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday, March 15 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. Services will be held Monday, March 16 at 11:00 a.m. at the Paint Rock Methodist Church, followed by burial at Concho Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Concho Cemetery Fund at 11017 Lake Country Road, Paint Rock, Texas 76866. Pauline’s family is especially grateful to the Golden Age Retirement Home in Guthrie, Oklahoma as well as to the staff and services of Companion Hospice.
