Agnes Halfmann Fuchs

August 9, 1918 — December 24, 2015

Agnes Halfman Fuchs Agnes Halfman Fuchs (Aggie) age 97, a lifelong resident of Olfen and Rowena, died on December 24, 2015 surrounded by her family.

She was born in the Dryridge Community near Olfen on August 9, 1918 to W. J. and Ella (Ocker) Halfmann. After marrying Arnold Fuchs in 1940, they spent 60 years together raising a family on the Fuchs family farm in Olfen. In 1975 the couple moved to Rowena, where they both remained very active in farming along with their youngest son, Bob Fuchs, who continues operating the family farm.

Agnes was always an active member of the St. Boniface parish in Olfen where she was a charter member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She was also a member of the Christian Mother’s Society. Agnes was involved in many of the Olfen school activities and was a volunteer at Ballinger Memorial Hospital. Agnes loved working in the fields with Arnold, embroidering and quilting, deer hunting with friends and playing cards and dominos with adults and her grandchildren. She could also whip up a meal in a matter of minutes. Agnes’ six children, their spouses, thirteen grandchildren, and nineteen great grandchildren remember her fondly as the heart of the family. Her family is scattered all over the country, but everyone returns every other year for the Christmas gathering at Grandma’s house.

She is survived by her children, Helen Rose Ebaugh of Houston; Sister Deborah Ann Fuchs, a sister of Divine Providence, also of Houston; Jim Fuchs and his wife Sandi of Minnesota; Tom Fuchs and his wife Janis of Boerne; Roy Fuchs and his wife Diane of St. Louis; Bob Fuchs and his wife Puggy of Olfen. Agnes has two remaining sisters, Mary Lou Multer of Olfen and Dorrine Moeller of Rowena, and one sister-in-law, Lou Halfman of Eola.

The family gatherings at Grandma’s home will always be remembered as the highlight of the year for all four generations of the Fuchs family. As the family gathers this year for Christmas, they are grateful that they are all together to celebrate Grandma’s life.

A memorial service will be held at St. Boniface Church in Olfen at 6:00 pm this Sunday, December 27. A funeral mass will also be held at St. Boniface Church at 10:00 am on Monday, December 28. This is the church in which she and her late husband Arnold were baptized, married and raised their children. She will be laid to rest in St. Boniface Cemetery alongside of her husband who died in 2000.

The family expresses deep gratitude for the loving care Agnes received at the Allison House at SageCrest.
