Christine M. Smith

Christine M. (Dodson) Smith, 84, of Ballinger passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at Ballinger Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Christine was born October 27, 1924 in Winters to William C. and Myrtle (Barnett) Dodson and had lived in Ballinger since 1928. On August 2, 1941 she married Charles E. “Dude” Smith who preceded her in death April 4, 1991. Ballinger will remember Christine as a gracious, helpful sales lady in Heidenheimer’s ready-to wear department and at Dallinger Hardware, working almost 20 years at each establishment. She also ran the Concho County mail route until 1999. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, two brothers and two sisters, and a grandson, Scott.

Christine is survived by two children, Ronnie Smith and wife, Bonnie, of Ballinger and Patti Ledingham and husband, Ron, of Mannford, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Shelly Schniers and husband, Howard, of Rowena; Kristie Smith of Coleman; Barrett Smith and wife, Hailey, of Hubbard; Jeff Smith and wife, Kim, of San Antonio; and their mother, Jeri Smith of San Antonio. Other surviving grandchildren are Stacy Ogle and wife, Kristi, of San Angelo; Shila McDowell and husband, Todd, of Houston; and step-grandson, Jeff Moreland and wife, Lacey, of Ballinger. Christine is also survived by two sisters, Shirley Wolverton and husband, Max, of Ballinger and Billie Simpson of San Angelo, seventeen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

There will be a time of visitation for family and friends Friday, April 10 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, April 11 at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. Bobby Broyles officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Todd McDowell, Howard Schniers, Patrick Egan, Skylar Schniers, Slade Egan, Troy McDowell, Dalton Ogle, and Cameron Smith.

The family would like to thank Ballinger Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Ballinger Memorial Hospital, Hospice of Ballinger, and Dr. Rightmire for all their loving care.
