Edmund Jacob Binder, Sr.

August 2, 1920 — April 10, 2009

Edmund Jacob Binder, Sr., 88, of Ballinger died Friday, April 10, at Ballinger Memorial Hospital. He was born August 2, 1920 in Runnels County to Jacob and Frances (Zly) Binder. Edmund married Dorine Frances Strakos on June 20, 1950. He served during World War II in the U.S. Army in Company D of the 361st Infantry, where he received several decorations including three Bronze Star Medals. He was honorably discharged in 1945 after achieving the rank of staff sergeant. He was a farmer in the Rowena and Lowake area for over fifty years before moving to Ballinger in 2004 and retiring in 2005.

Edmund is survived by his wife, Dorine of Ballinger; his six children, Edmund Jr. and Karen Binder of Ballinger, George and Yvonne Binder of Miles, Frances and Rick Werner of Wall, Joe and Wanda Binder of Ballinger, Charles and Lisa Binder of Midland, and Allan and Lorry Binder of Rowena; one brother, William J. Binder of Ballinger, one aunt, Ella Zly of Ballinger; twelve grandchildren, Tracye Lassus, Lacy Thomas, John Binder, Brad Binder, Clayton Binder, Dale Binder, Neil Werner, Bobby Werner, Nicholas Binder, Chelsea Binder, Joshua Binder, and Ashley Binder; five step-grandchildren, Debbie Palmer, Lisa Halfmann, Butch Wood, Chris Wells and Whitney Wells; five great-grandchildren and numerous cousins.

Rosary will be held 7 pm Sunday at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 am Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena with Rev. Hugh Wade officiating. A burial with military honors will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Grandsons will be pallbearers.
