Clinton Smith

July 22, 1961 — January 6, 2016

Clinton Joe Smith, 54, of Ballinger passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2016.

He was born July 22, 1961 in Andrews, TX to Joe T. Smith and Wanda Wells Smith. Clinton graduated from Coahoma High School, and after a lifelong career in oil and natural gas, he received his Masters in the Oilfield. He worked for Union Petroleum, Western Gas Resources, Mitchell Energy, Devon Energy and most recently, Anadarko. In his younger years, he farmed during the day and worked in the oilfield at night to provide for his girls.

He loved being with his grandbabies and was especially delighted when they were ornery and mischievous. He enjoyed family trips, including yearly reunions to the Frio River, hunting and fishing with family and co-workers who were like family, driving on long back roads with country music playing in the background, teaching his girls about life and how to live it. Clinton loved his job and everyone he worked with, learning and teaching about the oilfield, and worked until the day he died.

Clint is described as being selfless, loving, giving, kind hearted, honest, level headed, smart, loyal, hard working, dedicated, a straight shooter, dependable, friendly, loveable and ornery. He would give you the shirt off his back (if you earned it).

He is survived by his daughters Cari Cuellar and husband Gabe of Ballinger, Caci Demmer and husband Kyle of Midland, loving father Joe T. and wife Lynda Smith of Oklahoma, loving mother Wanda Wells Smith and Wayne Henshaw of Oklahoma. He had three grandbabies who were the loves and light of his life, Koda and Kash Cuellar, Addison Demmer, and one on the way who he couldn’t wait to meet, Baby Demmer. Also surviving is his sister Kim Smith Baker of Oklahoma, with whom he held a special and close relationship with and her children, Magan and Garret Aldridge and Emily Dee. He leaves behind many cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Clint will be missed more than words can ever express by everyone he touched, especially his grandkids. He spent the past 11 years of his life being a dedicated Pappy and lit up when he got to watch the kids play. His memory and character will live on through them.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6-8pm at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger on Saturday, January 9th. Services will be held at 2pm on Sunday, January 10th at First United Methodist Church in Ballinger with Rev. Buddy Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Old Runnels Cemetery.
