Bobby Joe Poindexter

Bobby Joe Poindexter, 52, of Weatherford and formerly of the Ballinger/Winters area, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2009 in Weatherford after a brave battle with cancer.

Bobby was born December 4, 1956 in Ballinger to Donald and Betty Ann (Keesee) Poindexter. He attended elementary school in Ballinger and graduated from Winters High School where he played football and participated in other school activities. He proudly served his country in the US Navy in the early 1980’s. He had lived and worked in the Weatherford area for the past several years. Bobby loved family, Elvis, camping, canoeing the Rio Grande, fishing, and a cold, Dublin Dr Pepper—in that order.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenny Poindexter.

He is survived by his two daughters, Karla Poindexter of Eden and Mandy Hyer of Abilene; foster father, Kirke McKenzie and wife, Lois Ann, of Iraan; foster grandmother, Mrs. C. R. McKenzie of Ft. Stockton; and foster mother, Carolyn DeLaCruz and husband, Fred, of Granbury. Also surviving are a sister, Laura Harwell and husband, Walt, of Weatherford; five brothers, Jeff Poindexter and wife, Julie, Terry Poindexter and wife, Tami, all of Amarillo; Larry Poindexter of Ballinger; Robbie Dunlap and wife, Laura, of Las Cruces, NM; and Mark Poindexter of Lexington, NC. Three grandchildren survive, as well as several nieces and nephews, many cousins, and numerous friends.

Visitation for family and friends will be Saturday, May 2 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. Graveside services will be conducted on Sunday, May 3 at 1:00 p.m. at Old Runnels Cemetery with Rev. David Williams officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Colton Harwell, Ryan Poindexter, Felton Hilliard, Kirke McKenzie, Fred DeLaCruz, and David Keesee.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Integracare Hospice of Mineral Wells, including Robin Hale, Teri Olney, Tommy Pophin, Betty Newberry, Ellen Grosdick, Stacey McWhorter, and Dave George.

In lieu of flowers, donations toward final expenses would be appreciated.
