Billie Weatherby

Billie “Ma” Weatherby, of Miles, Texas, passed away Monday, July 18, 2016, at her residence after 95 good, meaningful years.

Billie was born May 6, 1921, in Justin, Texas to William B. and Mona (Lumpkin) Curry. She married Jim Weatherby on September 3, 1938 in Mertzon. She and Jim were longtime ranchers in the area, and she continued ranching after Jim’s death in 1978. She was a member of the Miles Methodist Church.

For several years Billie taught at the Miles School where she was said to be “quite a remarkable person.” She was remarkable and special in whatever she did. She approached her work and life in general with a positive, caring attitude. Friendly and fun loving, she was always willing to help in her kind, gentle way.

“Ma” is survived by her daughter, Wanda Virden and husband, Tony, and by her son, Jim Roy Weatherby and wife, Joyce, all of Ballinger; grandsons, Toby Virden and wife, Tammie, Todd Virden all of Ballinger, and William Weatherby and wife, Niki, of Arizona.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 23, at 2:00 pm at the Miles Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Miles Cemetery. There will be a time of visitation prior to the service and after the graveside service at the church fellowship hall.
