Gladys Marie Russell

Gladys Marie Russell, 86, of Ballinger passed away Monday evening, July 6, 2009 at her residence.

She was born June 19, 1923 in Rowena to Gus and Christine Redman. On July 4, 1942 in Norton she married LeRoy Ellis who preceded her in death. Gladys had lived in the community since 1957 and was a nurses’ aide, serving several years as a personal care attendant at Ballinger Memorial Hospital. She worked for a time at Perry Brothers. She married Ralph Russell on July 14, 1972, and he also preceded her in death. She was an active, dedicated member of 7th Street Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School there for 50 years and was also a member of the Women’s Missionary Union. She will be greatly missed but lovingly remembered by family and friends for her sweetness, faithfulness, and devotion.

Gladys is survived by her daughters, Barbara Morrish and husband, Glenn, of Hempstead, and Brenda Harral of San Angelo; brothers, Milton Redman of Ballinger, Edward Redman of Odessa, and Curtis Redman of Abilene. Also surviving are grandchildren, Kim Rocka, Angela Clayton, and Doug Morrish; five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

There will be a time of visitation for family and friends on Wednesday, July 8 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 9 at 10:00 a.m. at 7th Street Baptist Church in Ballinger with Rev. Ferris Akins officiating. Burial will follow in Old Runnels Cemetery. Pallbearers are Curtis Redman, Lance Medrano, Joshua Clayton, Doug Morrish, Colten Rocka, and Glenn Morrish.

The family requests that along with flowers memorial donations could be made to Vista Care Hospice of San Angelo.
