Rodolfo G. (Rudy, El Wedo/Guero) Alvarez, of San Angelo and formerly of Ballinger, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo. He was 76.
Rudy was born February 18, 1933 in Ballinger to Alberto H. and Josefa Garcia Alvarez. He attended school in Ballinger and graduated from Ballinger High School. In 1955 he entered the U.S. Air Force, served in Vietnam, was a boom operator in the Air Refueling Squadron, and retired in 1975 at Dyess AFB in Abilene with the rank of tech sergeant after 20 years of service to his country.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Alfonso G. Alvarez, Manuel G. Alvarez, Richardo Silvas, and his sister, Hortencia G. Garcia.
Mr. Alvarez is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Urbanus and husband, Paul, of Dallas, and Annette Royal and husband, Coke, of Dallas; two grandsons, James Bivins and Andrew Bivins of Dallas. Also surviving are brothers, Antonio Alvarez and wife, Margaret, of San Antonio, Fred G. Alvarez of Fort Worth, and Armando Alvarez and wife, Terry of Abilene; two sisters, Guadalupe Saenz of Lexington, Kentucky, and Linda Guevara and husband, Henry, of San Angelo; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Rosary will be recited Sunday, July 12 at 7:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 13 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ballinger. Serving as pallbearers are Aaron Alvarez, Mario Alvarez, Charlie Alvarez, Jeremy Guevara, Fred Alvarez, and James Mayville. Burial with full military honors will take place in the Latin-American Cemetery.
