George William Binder

George William Binder, 64, of Miles passed into eternity Monday morning, November 7, 2016.

Rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm on Wednesday at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Miles. Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Fr. Ariel Lagunilla celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Rowena.

He was born on August 29, 1952, in San Angelo, Texas, to Dorine Strakos Binder and Edmund John Binder, Sr. He attended school at St. Joseph Catholic School in Rowena and graduated from Miles High School in 1970. He attended Angelo State University, majoring in agriculture. On April 12, 1975, George married Yvonne Schwertner at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena. To this union were born three sons, Brad William, Dale Wayne, and Clayton Lee Binder.

At the age of 14, George began working for Lowake Co-op Gin and worked there until it was dissolved. He was the cotton ginner and grain elevator operator at the Miles Co-op Gin for 14 years. For the remainder of his life, he was self-employed farmer and carpenter in the Miles and Lowake areas. At 17, George became a member of the Rowena Knights of Columbus. He was a charter member and officer of the Miles Knights of Columbus. He was a member and officer of the Miles Young Famers. In 1982, he was awarded the chapter, area, and state Outstanding Agribusiness Award by the Texas Young Farmers.

He was precede in death by his father; brother, Joe Binder; uncle and aunt, Willie and Betty Binder; uncles, Victor Strakos, Bennie Mazur, and Eugene Motl; parents-in-law, Gus and Rose Schwertner; brother-in-law, James Pitts; sister-in-law, Carmelita Dierschke; and best friend, Glen Book.

George is survived by his wife of 41 years, Yvonne; three sons and their wives, Brad Binder and Lynn (Schwertner) and Kyrstin, Keeley, and Kynna of Rowena, Dale Binder and Crystal (Zinnikas) and Jada and Brooklyne of San Angelo, and Clayton Binder and Hailey (Cook) and Kiley, Cutter, and Cassidy of Ballinger; his mother, Dorine Binder of Ballinger; brothers, Allan (Lorry) of Rowena, Charles (Lisa) of Midland, and Edmund, Jr. (Karen) of Ballinger; sister, Frances (Ricky) Werner of Wall; sister-in-law, Wanda Binder of Ballinger; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rita and Joseph Busenlehner of Miles and Loretta and Billy Schniers of Wall; aunts and uncles, James Strakos of Florida, Rosalic Motl of Llano, Josie and Dan Egan of Lancaster, Pauline Mazur of Ballinger; and Joe Stakos; and twenty nieces and nephews.

He was a friend to all and will be greatly missed.
