David Deane Allbright

David Deane Allbright, 79, of Ballinger passed away Saturday, August 1, 2009 in a San Angelo nursing center.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 PM Monday, August 3, 2009 at Lange Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 4th at the First Christian Church with Lynn Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.

David was born on February 20, 1930 in Ballinger to the pioneer family of John Elwood and Vera Elizabeth (Cochran) Allbright. After high school, he served with the US Navy during the Korean War. He then attended Texas Western, receiving his BS in 1957 and later North Texas and receiving his Masters in 1964. He worked for the Hurst ISD as a secondary education teacher for 30 years, retiring in 1984 and returning to Ballinger.

David married Ruby Lea Alexander on July 8, 1961 in Gainesville. He was a member and an Elder of the First Christian Church. He served as the chairman of the Runnels County Historical Commission for five years. He was a past master of Masonic Lodge 643 in Ballinger and was the recipient of the Golden Trowel Award, the highest award of the lodge. He held membership in the Scottish Rite, Waco-York Rite, Chapter Council and Commandary in San Angelo, and was a Shriner with membership at Suez Temple in San Angelo. He was also a member and past Worthy Patron of Ballinger Chapter 366, Order of the Eastern Star.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Allbright of Ballinger; daughter, Andrea B. Allbright of Hurst; sons, Anthony Lee Allbright of Albuquerque, NM and Charles D. Allbright of Keller; a sister, Mary Bailey; and grandchildren, Claire Allbright, Joseph Allbright and Benjamin Allbright.

The family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or to a favorite charity.
