Bernice Lange Gully, 88, of Rowena, Texas passed away Monday, December 26, 2016 at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo.
She was born November 27, 1928 to Frank and Isabella (Dierschke) Lange in Rowena. Her parents were lifelong residents of Rowena and Bernice attended school at St. Joseph Catholic School and graduated in 1945. She married Harvey Gully on September 6, 1949 in Rowena and they were married for 58 years. Bernice was a homemaker, enjoyed sewing, and machine quilted many a quilt. Her pecan pies were enjoyed by Harvey, their sons, grandchildren, and the entire family. During the first years of her marriage, she helped with the farm, doing field work with Harvey. She enjoyed the outdoors and had a great collection of photo albums, of the family and local history. She had a passion for genealogy. Bernice was a member of St. Ann’s Altar Society and Christian Mother’s Society, holding many offices with the organization. She also did church laundry for 17 years.
Bernice is preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter, Annette Gully; brother, David Lange; sister, Edna Schaefer; and grandchild, Christie Gully.
She is survived by her sons, Jerome Gully and wife, Kay, Charles Gully and wife, Susie, Leonard Gully and wife, Jean, and Stanley Gully and wife, Linda; sisters, Elaine Pelzel and Mae Dell Schaefer; brother, Andrew Lange and wife, Helen; numerous grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm on Thursday, December 29 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena. Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, December 30 at St. Joseph with Msgr. Bernard Gully celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
