Ouida Beatrice Rogers Nichols, 90, of Winters, Texas passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017 in Abilene.

She was born June 20, 1927 in Winters to Ira and Lucille (Jones) Rogers. On February 8, 1947, Ouida married H. M. “Jiggs” Nichols in Sudan, Texas. They shared 69 years together before his passing in 2016. At the age of 18, she began her lifetime career as a teacher in Sudan. She taught for 31 years at Winters ISD. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Winters. She held the position of church treasurer for 35 years. She served a four year term as municipal judge in Winters. She served on the board of the Winters Public Library for 40 years.

Ouida is preceded in death by her husband, Jiggs; and brothers, Sonny, Wayne, and Bobby.

She is survived by her sons, Roger “Rusty” Nichols of Austin, Texas and Noel “Dusty” Nichols of Richmond, Virginia; grandchildren, Jaye Brady Nichols Sloane and husband, Sam of Abilene, Texas and Travis Nelson Nichols and wife Karina Portuondo of San Francisco, California; great-grandson, Greyson Jiggs Sloane; and daughter-in-law, Jennifer Nichols.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday from 5:00-7:00 pm at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Winters with Pastors Samantha Chambers and Bob Murchison officiating. Burial will follow at Northview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winters Public Library, Meals on Wheels, or the First United Methodist Church in Winters.
