Ruth Bird, 93, of Ballinger passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at Ballinger Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 18, 1916 in Milford, Texas to Walter and Henry (Brannon) Seipp. She had lived in the community since 1921, attended school in Ballinger, and was a graduate of Ballinger High School. On February 13, 1937 she and John Fred Moncrief were married. He passed away January 20, 1978. In July of 1983 she married Robert Marvin Bird, Sr. who preceded her in death March 19, 1998.
Ruth will be remembered as a knowledgeable, pleasant sales clerk in local jewelry stores, working over 20 years for Hambrick Jewelers and Bryan Jewelers. For a time she was employed as a teachers’ aide. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ballinger.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; a grandson, Scott Byrd; and two brothers, Nelson Seipp and W. E. “Sonny” Seipp.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Linda Byrd, and husband, Coy Eugene, of San Angelo, and her son, Joe Bob Moncrief and wife, Emily, of Houston. Also surviving is her sister, Charlene Curtis, of Hewitt; grandchildren, Lesa Wright, Travis Moncrief, and Alex Byrd; and great-grandchild, Dustin Wright.
There will be a time of visitation for family and friends Wednesday, November 11 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. Graveside services will be held Thursday, November 12 at 1:00 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger with Rev. Ferris Akins officiating.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Ballinger Carnegie Library or to a favorite charity.
