Elia Mendiola Jaques

Elia Mendiola Jaques, age 92, of Ballinger passed away Monday, November 30, 2009 at Ballinger Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

One of nine children, she was born on February 11, 1917 in Talpa to Jose and Ricarda Armendarez Mendiola. Her mother was university educated in Mexico, and after moving to the U.S. in the early 1900’s, she taught her children at home. Elia married Joe D. Jaques in Ballinger, and they had lived in the area since their marriage. Mr. Jaques passed away October 6, 1957. Elia taught Sunday school at the Premera Iglesia Baptist Church for many years and was employed as a house cleaner. She is remembered as a neat, tidy lady, small in stature but full of energy and love, who was always considerate of all her extended family and neighbors.

Mrs. Jaques was preceded in death by her parents and husband; and seven brothers and sisters, Edwardo Martinez, Manuela Benavides, David Martinez, Elisio Mendiola, Josefa Jaques, Jose Mendiola, and Maria Lopez.

She is survived by one brother, Manuel Mendiola of Ballinger; devoted nieces, Ortencia Perez and husband, Jose of Midland, and Lisa Sanchez and husband, Margarito of Abilene; and numerous other nephews and nieces.

A time of visitation will be held Thursday, December 3 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. Funeral services will be Friday, December 4 at 2:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Williams officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Rowena. Serving as pallbearers will be Jesse Benavides, Ismael Benavides, Jose Perez, Margarito Sanchez, Joe Mendiola, and Eddie Mendiola.
