Phyllis E. Fanning, age 85, of Ballinger passed away Saturday December 5, 2009 at her home, surrounded by family.

She was born May 4, 1924 in Zanesville, OH to Ralph and Margaret I. (Johnson) Ludman. She served as a Petty Officer in the US Coast Guard during WW II and married William Lloyd Fanning in Zanesville in 1945. While living in Austin, TX Phyllis worked as a secretary for the Austin ISD.

William preceded her in death in 1986 and she moved to Ballinger to be with her daughter, Mary Edmondson.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Mary Edmondson and husband, Hugh of Ballinger; a son, William Fanning and wife, Suzanne of Houston; grandchildren, Christine Crenshaw of Ballinger, Blake Edmondson and wife, Reesie of Mt. Pleasant, Tyler Edmondson and wife Jennifer of Lubbock, Marianne DeBenedictis and husband, Tony of Houston, Christin Sistrunk and husband, Damen of Houston and Matthew Fanning of Houston. A sister, Dorothy Leuck of Mesa AZ, seven great grandchildren, and a friend, Fr. William Martin of Lake Wells, FL also survive.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 PM Monday, December 7, 2009 at Lange Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday, December 8th at 2:00 PM at the Austin Memorial Park Cemetery in Austin with Pastor James Cobb officiating.
