Vernon Harry Jonas

Vernon Harry Jonas, 72, of Ballinger passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Ballinger Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 27, 1937 in Winters to Harry and Etta (Drummond) Jonas. He married Louise Jones on January 24, 1960 in Ballinger. Vernon owned and operated Vernon’s Radiator Service in Ballinger most of his working career. He served the citizens of Runnels County from 1957 to 2006. He also did farming and ranching. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, and family. He always enjoyed visiting with people and telling jokes. He never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Vernon Wendell Jonas, and three brothers, Raymond, Albert, and Robert Jonas.

Vernon is survived by his devoted wife, Louise Jonas of Ballinger; three sons, Lanny Jonas and wife, Melanie, of Abilene, John Jonas and Michael Jonas, both of Ballinger. Also surviving are two sisters, Lois Roberts of Galivants Ferry, South Carolina, and Betty Greenwell of Winters; two granddaughters, Harley Jonas of Abilene and Carah Jonas of Scotts Depot, West Virginia; and his mother-in-law, Daisy Jones of Ballinger.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, January 2, 2010 at Lange Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 3 at Lange Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Shannon Medical Center, Dr. Rustman, Chaplain Jim Benson, Ballinger Memorial Hospital and Clinic, and Ballinger Home Health during Vernon’s long illness. We also want to thank our friends and family for their visits, thoughts, prayers, and support, with special thanks to Beth Doty, Richard Gruhn, Donnie Jonas, and Tom Malone.
