Bertha Newsom Hambright

Bertha Newsom Hambright, 99, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Runnels County Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born October 22, 1910 in Runnels County to Alvie and Emma Drake Newsom.
Bertha and Joe Hambright were married on October 13, 1928 in Winters, TX. They lived and farmed in the Norton area until 1954 and then moved to Ballinger where they owned and operated two filling stations and later Hambright Drug. Joe preceded her in death on August 13, 1981. Bertha was a lifelong resident of Runnels County.

She was also preceded by her parents, a sister, Alma Simpson, and a brother, Harvey Newsom.

Bertha is survived by two sons, Elwood Hambright and wife, Diane, of Kerrville and Rodney Hambright and wife, Shirley, of Abilene; four grandchildren, Teresa Cappola, Terry Davis, Tammy Swening and Jason Hambright; six great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild.

There will be a time of visitation for family and friends on Sunday, January 10, 2010, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Monday, January 11, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. in the Lange Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
