Marie Louise Brown

Marie Louise Brown, 98, of Mineral Wells, Texas, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010 in Runnels County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
She was born in Quincy, Illinois May 2, 1911 to Marie Henhoff Childers and William L. Childers.
Marie’s parents moved to Albuquerque, NM, where she met and married John Judson Brown March 1, 1930. As an employee of Standard Oil Company, John transferred with his family to El Paso, TX and remained with that company until his retirement.
Marie was a devoted mother and homemaker. Later in life she worked for The Popular Department Store and Eastwood Cafeteria in El Paso. Marie began her avocation as a volunteer with working as a volunteer for Eastwood Hospital for 16 years. When she moved to Mineral Wells, TX to live with her daughter, Claudette Morrow, she continued her volunteer work with the Palo Pinto General Hospital where she worked until she was 96 years old. She was affectionately known there as the “Popcorn Lady”.
She had lived at Ashwood Manor in Ballinger for two years prior to her passing where she was known as the “Chinese Checkers and Domino Champion”.
Marie was a member of the Lutheran Church in El Paso, and the Presbyterian Church in Mineral wells.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; and her siblings, William Childers and Mildred Childers Ellison.
She is survived by one brother, Charles Lawson Childers of Estancia NM; three children, Jeanette Grothen and husband Paul of Hastings Nebraska, Claudette Morrow and husband Dave of Mineral Wells, Texas, and Robert (Bob) Brown and wife Martha of Ballinger, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial Service will be held in Mineral Wells, Texas on Saturday, February 6 at 12:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church.
