Irene N. Jansa

Irene N. Jansa, 93 of Rowena, passed away Monday morning, March 15, 2010 in Ballinger Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family.

She was born on July 5, 1916 in Rowena to John G. and Annie Feist Schuhmann. After high school, she married William Jansa on August 20, 1941 in Rowena. He preceded her in death on January 17, 1992.

Irene was a bookkeeper for the First National Bank of Rowena for 21 years, starting in 1959 and retiring in 1980. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena and a member of St Ann Altar Society and Catholic Daughters. She also was the church organist for seven years. Family and friends were a great enjoyment to Irene. She loved to visit about old times and good friends.

Irene is survived by her daughters, Teresa Jansa of San Antonio and Mary F. Orwat and husband, James of Denton; her sons, W.J. Jansa and wife, Emlyn of Abilene and David Jansa and wife, Beverly of Rowena; her grandchildren, Cary Reid and husband, Josh and their son, J.T., Tracy Sorrells and husband, Mike and their children Hunter and Mackenzie, Kristi Jansa and her daughter, Lexi, Kimberly Jansa, Ryan Jansa, Kayla Arredondo and husband, John, Matthew Orwat, and Erin Hoelscher and husband, Craig. A brother, Leroy Schuhmann of San Angelo, and a special friend, “Boots,” also survive.

A Rosary for Irene will be recited Wednesday March 17 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Chinnapparaj Mariasavary officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers, and nephews, Randy Schaefer and Larry Book will serve as honorary pallbearers.
