A Celebration of Life for Edgar Poehls will be on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Zoar Community Church in Rowena, Texas. Burial will follow in Rowena Protestant Cemetery.

Edgar Rudell “Pa” Poehls passed away Friday, May 21, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. Edgar was born the eldest son of eight children to August and Martha Poehls on October 31, 1932 on the Poehls farm south of Rowena, Texas. He married Marilyn Anna Redman on August 5, 1952 in Rowena. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles and James Poehls; two sisters, Ruby Lee Newstead and Geneva Goetz; and brothers-in-law, Bill Gibson, Mirand Goetz, Clarence Hennig, Jack Newstead, and Walter Schwartz.

Edgar was involved in various career fields in his young family life, including working for the Runnels County Maintenance Department, and then retiring after twenty-three years with the Texas Department of Transportation in San Angelo. Edgar lived most of his life in and around Rowena and Miles and was an active participant in community endeavors. He served on the Miles ISD Board of Trustees, Miles City Council, Rowena Cemetery Association, and the Runnels County Appraisal District. Edgar was a member of the Miles Masonic Lodge and a life member of the Zoar Community Church in Rowena.

He was an avid sports fan, coached Little League Baseball and played on community volleyball, baseball, and slow pitch softball teams. Through the years Edgar enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participate in school activities and athletic programs. Edgar loved to travel and shared many memorable trips with those he loved. His passion was reading, and he was never without a book. Edgar always met people with a handshake or a hug and lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed dancing, playing dominoes and cards, sharing jokes and stories, and being surrounded by family and friends.

Edgar is survived by Marilyn, his wife of fifty-seven years; his children, Ronda and Art Mavrode, Diana and Philip Treadaway, Jackie and Belinda Poehls, and Rocky and Patti Poehls, all of San Angelo; his grandchildren, Eyrin and Bill Book, Alicia Penkert, Amalia Litsa, Tina and Chris Spencer, Jaton and Josh Treadaway, Brooke and Justin Poehls, and Mekayla Poehls; and his great-grandchildren, Taylen, Jada, Hayven, Aspen and Sage. He is also survived by three sisters, Margaret Hennig of Rowena, Dorothy Schwartz of San Angelo, Betty Sims and her husband, C. A., of Clyde; sisters-in-law, Alva Gibson of San Angelo and Pat Parker and her husband, Jack, of Gainesville; several special nieces, nephews, and cousins; his winning domino partner, Fred Book, and his many other domino and card playing buddies.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Edgar’s long-time physician, Dr. John Granaghan and his staff, and to the pulmonary medical team of Dr. Daniel Dube.
