Walter Carl Drueckhammer

March 21, 1918 — June 1, 2010

Walter C. Drueckhammer, age 92, of Rowena passed away, Tuesday, June 1, 2010.

Funeral services will be Friday, June 4 at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles with Diane Eggemeyer officiating. Graveside services will follow at 4:00 p.m. at St. Johns Cemetery in Priddy, Texas under the direction of Lange Funeral Home of Ballinger.

Walter was born at Priddy, Texas on March 21, 1918 to August F. and Louise (Lippe) Drueckhammer He was baptized in the Lutheran faith, graduated from Priddy High School, and attended San Angelo Jr. College

He worked for the Texas Highway Department for 27 years, retiring in 1981. He had previously worked with Jack Ammon Photogermatic Engineers from San Antonio. Prior to that, he was employed by the Soil Conservation Service at Hondo, Texas.

Walter was a U.S. Air Corps veteran of World War II. He served with the First Artic Search and Rescue Squad in Greenland. He was a life member of the VFW and the DAV.

He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles. He volunteered as an active member of the PTA and served many capacities, including District 6 PTA President. He was honored with both Texas and national life memberships.

His parents, five sisters, and two brothers preceded him in death.

Survivors include his loving wife, Isabella; daughter, Donna Nesbit and husband, Clay, of Angleton, Texas; son, Carl Drueckhammer and wife, Melissa, of Tampa, Florida; step-daughter, Nola Jean Wanoreck and husband, Ed, of Mereta; five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and six step-great-grandchildren; and sister, Leona Glasgow of Spruce Creek, Pennsylvania.

Walter’s favorite charities were his church, Clifton Lutheran Sunset Homes, Lutheran Social Service of Austin, and Mosaic Rudwiur Child Care Center. Memorial may be made to these or to a favorite charity.
