Danny Ervin Likes, 63, of Ballinger passed away Sunday, May 30, 2010 at Ballinger Memorial Hospital in Ballinger, Texas.
He was born May 12, 1947 in Littlefield, Texas to Jessie Ervin and Alma (Gray) Likes. “Mom and Dad” since birth were Dan and Alta Gray. Danny attended technical college for four years and became a self-employed contractor. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army and received several commendations, including a Purple Heart. He was privileged and proud to have been a member of the Army’s Special Forces known as the Green Berets. He married Diana Lynn King on July 27, 1978 in Garland at a ceremony in the Garland Nursing Home with Grandma Ollie King as maid of honor. Danny and Diana had lived and worked in the Ballinger community since 1985.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his “Mom and Dad;” a son, Richard Likes; a step-brother and a step-sister.
Danny is survived by his devoted wife, Diana; a son, Jesse Likes and his wife, Rebecca; and granddaughters, Crystal and Ashley Likes, all of Ballinger. Also surviving are children by a previous marriage, Michael, Daniel, Alton, and Dana Likes.
A memorial service with military honors will be conducted Sunday, June 20 at 2:00 p.m. at the VA Memorial Marker located on the Runnels County Courthouse lawn in Ballinger. Jimmy and Bo Bennett will officiate. A “going away party” will be at Danny’s home, 701 Railroad Avenue, following the service.
Memorial donations may be made to Ballinger Memorial Hospital, St. Jude’s Cancer Center, or a favorite charity.
