Lillie Kurtz Winchester

July 20, 1922 — July 26, 2010

Lillie Rosa Machann Kurtz Winchester, 88, of Ballinger, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 26, 2010. She was born July 20, 1922 in Rowena, Texas to Joseph and Rosa Binder Machann. Lillie was the matriarch
of her family. Her first marriage produced two children, Shirley and Bobby Kurtz, by husband, Leroy Kurtz, who was killed during World War II. She later married Richard Winchester and had two sons, Larry and
Terry. Unfortunately, a car accident took the life of her second husband. She raised these four children to be productive, responsible adults. Another important person in Lillie's life was Leo Johnson who also preceded
her in death after having dated for over 25 years.

Once her children were grown, she went to work at Ben Franklin's Variety Store and later retired from Dry's Manufacturing. Upon retirement she returned to her hobby of quilting, making all of her children,
grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren heirloom quilts. After tiring of quilt making, she took up needlepoint and has made everyone at least one table runner.

Her family was very important to her and she always treated everyone special. Family meals and holidays
were always prepared lovingly by her until her health prevented her doing it herself; however, she then always orchestrated the meal and made sure we prepared it just like she wanted it.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bernie Machann, and sister, Mary
Pullin.

She is survived by her children, Shirley Fant and husband, Marvin, of Miles; Bobby Kurtz and wife, Jan, of Yukon, Oklahoma; Larry Winchester and wife, Vicki, of Cottonwood, Arizona; and Terry Winchester and
wife, Cindy, of Ballinger. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Paula Rankin and husband, Steven; Marla Dusek and husband, Ed; Jason Kurtz and wife, Ashley; Alison Basler and husband, Jeremy; Kyle Winchester; Kevin Winchester; John Winchester and wife, Shelly; Jessica Winchester and Justine Winchester; her great-grandchildren, MarLon Rankin, Chel'C Rankin; Ashlee Whitesell and fiancé, Trey Weishuhn; CiJi Dickson
and husband, Lee; Ashlyn Basler; Jadyn Basler; Sterling Winchester; Mykennah Winchester; Ayers Kurtz and newborn, Wyatt Winchester; a great-great-grandson, Lane Whitesell; and sisters, Margie Bradley of Midland; and Ella Caffey and husband, Bill, of Andrews; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday, July 28 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home
in Ballinger. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 29 at 2 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Grandsons, great-grandsons and great-great-grandsons will be pallbearers.

The family would like to give special thanks to all of the 5th Floor North nurses at Shannon Medical Center,
Dr. Carl Anderton and his nurse, Penny, for their wonderful care over the years, and the staff at Ballinger
Home Health.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of San Angelo or a favorite charity.
