Linn Coleman

May 5, 1919 — August 3, 2010

Linn Coleman, longtime Ballinger resident, died Tuesday, August 3, 2010 in Dallas, Texas after a brief illness. Graveside services, under the direction of Lange Funeral Home, will be held Saturday, August 7 at Fairview Cemetery in Bronte, Texas. The family will be at the Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger from 6:00 to 7:00 Friday evening for visitation.

She was born Ivy Belle Linn to Britt and Edna Martin Linn in Nolan County, Texas. After receiving her teaching degree from North Texas State Teachers College in Denton in 1940, she taught English, history, journalism and reading in the Bronte, Ballinger, and Paint Rock school systems.

While teaching in Bronte, she met Buck R. Coleman, and they married in Sweetwater February 12, 1943. They lived nearly all their married life in Ballinger. She was a long-
time member of the First Baptist Church of Ballinger.

She is survived by daughter, Susan Hope Everett of Irving, Texas; daughter, Jeanie Coleman and son-in-law, Roger Howe, of Whitewright Texas; grandson, Joshua Howe and his wife, Edris, and their twin daughters, Valerie and Alexis, and infant son, Ashton Aaron, of Spring, Texas; grandson, Aaron Britt Howe and Janice Morton of San Diego, California; and granddaughter, Dr. Laura Susan Howe-Martin and husband, Chris Martin, and their infant daughter, Avery Michelle, of Fort Worth, Texas. One brother, David Linn and his wife, Bennie Ruth, of Nolan, Texas and one sister, Maggie Joy Dugan of Big Spring also survive her. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and dear lifelong friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, beloved husband Buck R. Coleman, a much-cherished three-year-old daughter, Judy Linn Coleman, and son-in-law, John H. Everett. She was also preceded by four sisters and three brothers.

Teaching was her love and passion, and she cheered her students’ every success. To paraphrase Chaucer, “…gladly would she learn and gladly teach.”

The family requests any memorials be made to Ballinger’s Carnegie Public Library.
