Thomas Benton Owens, Jr.

Thomas Benton Owens, Jr., age 90, of Early and formerly of Ballinger passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

He was born September 25, 1919 in Ballinger to Thomas Benton and Josephine Annie (Wartenbach) Owens. He proudly served his country during WW II in the US Army (8th Division, 43rd Artillery). Tommy was employed with the Texas Highway Department and with the railroad as an equipment operator.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-daughter, Lillie Jane Taylor; brothers, Clinton, Milton Ray, Alton, Charles, Fritz Ervin, Henry, and Guy; and a sister, Lottie Harris.

Tommy is survived by a son, Thomas C. Owens and wife, Ann, of Early, and a daughter, Susie Moore and husband, Dan, of Brownwood; step-daughters, Sharon Beaver of Ballinger, Loretta Patton of Hillsboro, and a step-son, James Glenn also of Hillsboro;
sister, Hilda McDonald of Midland; brothers, Jerry Owens and wife, Kathy of Tahoka, Damon Owens and wife, Berta, and Bill Owens and wife, Ruby, all of Havard, Montana. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, September 9 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. Funeral services will be Friday, September 10 at 4:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with military honors will take place in Old Runnels Cemetery near Ballinger.
