James Rex Stultz, 66, of Eden passed away Monday, September 20, 2010 in San Angelo.
He was born March 8, 1944 in Dallas to Bill Briley and Thera Maybelle (Williams) Stultz, both of whom preceded him in death. He and Marty Dunlap were married in January of 1968 in Azle. After receiving a Master’s Degree from Texas A&M University, Rex began a long and illustrious career as a County Ag Extension Agent, starting in Tom Green County. He then served in Val Verde County and became Concho County Agent in 1982, retiring in 1995 after 30 years of total service. He was also a member of the Paint Rock Masonic Lodge.
He was considered a pioneer in the Club Lamb industry and was a member of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association, American Rambouillet Sheep Breeders Association, and the Texas Sheepdog Association. His dedication and diligent work earned such major awards as Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association Outstanding County Agent in 1976 and Texas A&M Distinguished Service Award in 1987.
To put it simply, Rex enjoyed a pen full of good sheep and chewing on a good cigar. His knowledge and his presence will be missed in his profession but much more so in his capacity as family man and friend.
Rex is survived by his wife, Marty Stultz of Eden; his sons, Ross Stultz and wife, Mary Lisa, of Menard and Reid Stultz and wife, Kelly, of Christoval; sisters, Bobbie McMillan of Christoval, Mille Henderson and husband, Bob, of Andrews, and Beth Lively and husband, Jim, of Lorenzo. Also surviving are grandchildren, Stran and Slone Stultz of Menard, Hadley and Jon Wesley Stultz of Christoval; and a favorite nephew and niece, Scott Flanagan and Kellie Ebenstein.
Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, September 22 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 23 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Ballinger with burial in Ballinger Evergreen Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Ralph Willberg, Rex Taylor, Chase McPhaul, Sam Silver, John Hruska, Daniel Lange, Logan Newsom, and Jace Whitlow. Honorary pallbearers are Carl Hyde, Jimmy Rudasill, C. J. Robinson, Clyde Cantrell, Epp Epperson, Steve Wood, and Butch Larson.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Concho County Jr. Livestock Show or to a favorite charity.
