Addie Bea Neas, 95, of Ballinger, passed away quietly and peacefully at her home Saturday, September 25, 2010. Bea was the youngest of nine children born to George Washington Rains and Mary Ann Latham Harris on November 17, 1914, in Envernice, Mississippi. The family traveled to Gilmer, TX in 1915 by covered wagon, because of the flu epidemic and loss of farming. They established a farm in the area called Medlintown and Seven Pines.
She Married H.A. Neas, Jr. June 14, 1941 and they lived in Marshall, Texas. He immediately went into the service and was away for three years before returning home. They moved to Ballinger and they made it their home. He passed away in 1983. She was also preceded in death by her parents and other siblings.
Bea was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ballinger, and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Unable to have children of her own, she devoted her life to loving and taking care of other’s children. She was “Grandma Bea” to R.J. and Erin Barkley for over twenty years. She was affectionately known as “Nub” to her brothers and sisters.
Survivors include three nieces, Mozelle Phillips of Wills Point, Jaunita Baucom of Longview, June Borrer of Portland, and a nephew James Don Alexander, also of Portland. She is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and cousins, special friends, the Barkley family, Danny and Carolyn Slaughter, and her special care giver who was like a son to her, Richard Ingle. Also surviving is her beloved dog, Maggie.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday, September 27th at Lange Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 28 at Lange Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger.
