Imogene “Gene” (Taylor) Lee, 89, of Ballinger passed away Monday, October 4, 2010 at San Angelo Community Medical Center.
She was born July 29, 1921 in Norton to Ben and Dilly (Rhodes) Taylor and graduated from Norton High School in 1939. She was also married in Norton on September 19, 1940 to Raymond Lee, who preceded her in death August 23, 1999. She worked as a sales clerk, mainly in dry goods, and was employed by both Heidenheimers and Higginbothams and for a time by Keel Drug. Her friendliness and kindness in her work and in her daily life will be remembered by many. She was a member of the Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a sister, Bobbie Alexander; brothers, J. W. Taylor, Ben Taylor Jr., and Frank Taylor; and son-in-law, David McDaniel.
Gene is survived by her son, Charles Lee and wife, Denise, of Sherman; daughter, Karen McDaniel of Ballinger; grandchildren, Lee McDaniel and wife, Joy, Julie McAfee and husband, Donnie, all of Ballinger, Denise Sears of Dallas, and Josh Cowley of Denton. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 6 at 2:00 p.m. in Garden of Memories in Ballinger with Rev. Ferris Akins officiating. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Bill Baird, Dick Taylor, Ben Taylor, Rodney Kruse, Lee Roy Muller, Marlin Davis, and Buddy Henniger.
Memorials may be made to West Texas Rehabilitation Center or a favorite charity.
