Lillian Vandevanter Clark

Lillian Vandevanter Clark, 95, of Ballinger passed away Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo, Texas.

She was born July 8, 1915 in Runnels County to Henry V. and Gertrude S. (Wood) Vandevanter, a Runnels County pioneer family. By way of horseback she attended Benoit School and later went to school in Ballinger. Lillian and William Brawner Clark were married August 11, 1935 in Ballinger. Bill preceded her in death December 12, 1988.

Lillian was a devoted homemaker who diligently nurtured and cared for her family, but she also contributed to many church and community activities. She was a faithful, long-time member of the Ballinger First United Methodist Church. She was extremely active in the Garden Club and Know Your Neighbor Sewing Club, and numerous young people benefited from her leadership in the scouting program.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers, Henry and Tom Vandevanter.

Lillian is survived by a daughter, Lucia Smith, and son, Bill L. Clark and wife, Susan,
all of San Angelo. Also surviving are grandchildren, Cynthia Shores, Sonya Kay Burkholder, David Henry Smith, Tom W. Clark, and Lucia Clark Harris.

Funeral services for Lillian Clark will be Tuesday, November 23 at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Ballinger with Rev. Buddy Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Old Runnels Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 525, Ballinger, Texas 76821, Old Runnels Cemetery, or a favorite charity.
