Norbert Henry Halfmann, 87, of Eola died Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at a San Angelo hospital.
Rosary will be recited Friday, December 3 at 5:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 4 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr.Ariel Lagunilla, Msgr. Curtis Halfmann, and Msg. Larry Droll con-celebrating. Burial with military honors will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law, Kiley Miller, Zeb Baird, Andy Baird, Kenneth Holder, Eric Gully, Rick Vela, Brian Worrall, and Cameron Worrall. Harvey Kalina and Lonnie Kellermeier will be honorary pallbearers.
Norbert was born December 19, 1922 in Ballinger to W. J. and Ella (Ocker) Halfmann. He proudly served his country during WWII as a US Army combat infantryman. He and Lucille Droll were married June 4, 1946 at St. Joseph Church in Rowena. The couple lived, ranched, and farmed in the Eola community since 1947 as they raised their family of five girls.
He was a member of St. Phillip Catholic Church in Eola, Olfen Knights of Columbus #2772, and Rowena VFW. Norbert served on the Eola School Board, was director of Mereta Co-Op Gin for 18 years and director of Concho County Electric also for 18 years. Norbert was a good steward of the land and was recognized for his life-long endeavors by being named the District 1 Soil and Conservatioon Farmer of the Year and the Area Soil and Conservation Farmer of the Year. He loved his family, farming, land, cattle, and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Erwin Halfmann, sister, Lydia Halfmann, grandson, Jacob Baird, and brother-in-law, Arnold Fuchs.
Norbert is survived by his wife, Lucille, of Eola and by daughters, Peggie Stacy (Danny Hoelscher) of Midland, Janice Holder (Richard) of San Angelo, June Baird Garrett of Lowake, Nancy Smith (Alan) of Irving, and Judy Gully (Mark) of San Angelo. Also surviving are sisters, Agnes Fuchs of Rowena, Mary Lou Multer (Alfred) of Olfen, Dorine Moeller (Maurice) of Rowena; sister-in-law, Doris Halfmann of Olfen; grandchildren, Kiley Miller, Whitney Vela, Zeb and Andy Baird, Kenneth Holder, Lisa and Dawn Worrall, Michelle and Jennifer Killam, and Eric Gully; twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or a favorite charity.
