Alvin Anthony Gerngross

June 17, 1932 — August 30, 2022

Alvin Anthony Gerngross, 90, passed away on August 30, 2022, at Matador Health and Rehab Center in Matador, Texas.

Alvin was born on June 17, 1932, to John and Johana “Janie” (Multer) Gerngross, in Olfen, Texas where he spent the majority of his life farming and ranching.  He was a faithful member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Olfen, where he served as a daily lay minister and choir member.  Alvin never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face. Alvin could usually be found hanging out with the brothers he never had, Clifford and Dennis.  Together they were Alvin’s dates for everything, they hunted together and went to dances.  He always had a light-hearted joke to tell to anyone who would listen and would share his love of laughter with everyone who crossed his path.

Alvin is preceded in death by his parents and close friend, Billie Henderson.

He is survived by his cousin, Warren Multer and wife Tanya, and close friends Alma Hobbs and Joseph Busenlehner.  He is also survived by many other close friends and relatives.

The family would like to thank the staff of Matador Health and Rehab Center and Interim Hospice for their loving care of Alvin.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Boniface Church Cemetery Fund or the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.

A rosary will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2022, from 6 to 7 pm at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Olfen, Texas. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022, at 10 am also at St Boniface Catholic Church with Monsignor Larry Droll celebrating the mass and Father Ariel Lagunilla co-celebrating.  Interment to follow at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.
