Arlen Aldis Vaughan, 92, of Ballinger, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, in El Paso, Texas, due to complications of an arterial procedure.
He was born on January 14, 1932, to Ercel Edgar and Clara Marie (Baggett) Vaughan in Hatchel, Texas. After graduating from high school, Arlen served honorably in the United States Army, rising to second lieutenant until his discharge in 1955. He then spent several years working in law enforcement as a police officer in jurisdictions in Lubbock and Midland. Arlen worked for the US Postal Service for 30-plus years, with his last duty as Postmaster in Ballinger. He married Janet Kendrick on December 27, 1980, in a ceremony in Winters, Texas. An avid outdoorsman, Arlen loved farming, fishing, hunting, and golfing. He also loved his Lord and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ballinger, Texas.
Arlen is preceded in death by his parent Ercel and Marie Vaughan, his son Ralph Vaughan, and his sister Nelevene Nita Terry.
He is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Janet Vaughan, his son Michael Vaughan and wife Tracye of Midland, daughter Vicki Vaughan Conklin of Lubbock, and son Kelly Vaughan and wife Dee also of Midland. Arlen is also survived by Janet’s children, Greg Thompson, Randy Thompson and wife Joann, and Tracy Johnson and husband Bryce. He leaves behind his siblings Pat Vaughan and wife Barbara of El Cajon, California, Gary Vaughan (Beverly dec.) of Brisbane, Australia, and Jimmy Vaughan and wife Sherry of Abilene. Arlen will be greatly missed by 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
A visitation and funeral service will be held for Arlen on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church in Ballinger, Texas with Reverend Jerry Boles officiating. The visitation will begin at 1:00 pm and his service will follow at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Old Runnels Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Presbyterian Church or a favorite charity, in Arlen’s name.
