Bennie Joseph Frenzel, 91, of Rowena, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Ballinger Healthcare and Rehabilitation.
He was born Wednesday, May 11, 1932, to Ben and Mary (Moeller) Frenzel in Westphalia, Texas. Bennie married the love of his life, Dorothy Ann Schniers on June 18, 1957, in Rowena, Texas and they shared sixty-one years of marriage before her passing on August 5, 2018.
Bennie worked for Concho Concrete in San Angelo, until June 1967, when he and Dorothy purchased Bennie’s Bar and Grocery where together, for thirty-two years, they ran a successful business of catering and running the bar and grocery store, making many beautiful memories and friends before retiring in 2002. Bennie proudly and honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Rowena Lions Club for 50 years and was honored as “member of the year” in 2022. He was also an active member of the VFW, Knights of Columbus, and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for many years, including a long-time member of the Crossroads Gun Club. Bennie was an avid deer hunter, fisherman, and also enjoyed snake hunting.
Bennie is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; his brothers, Alois (Rosemary) Frenzel, Lawrence (Anna Mae) Frenzel, and Robert Frenzel; and his sisters, Regina (Pete) Schraer and Helen (Herbert) Wilde.
He is survived by his son, Michael (Laurie) Frenzel of Weatherford, Texas; his daughter, Paula (Moe) Salinas of Rowena, Texas; his grandson, Jace Fischer, and numerous other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister, Margaret Matthiesen; his sisters-in-law Nadine Buxkemper, Barbara Frenzel, and Lorene Schniers, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m., on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Lange Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Rowena, with Fr Ariel Lagunilla and Fr. Tim Hayter celebrating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
