Billie Jean (BJ) Henderson, 88, of Paint Rock, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2021, at Concho Health and Rehabilitation in Eden.
BJ was born to Haskel Henry and Vesta (Bonham) Matthews on July 13, 1932, in Three Sands, Oklahoma. She married Perry Gean Henderson on February 12, 1950, in Carlsbad, New Mexico and he preceded her in death in 1985. BJ was best-known for building and owning BJ’s Owl’s Roost on Lake Ivy. She loved to country-western dance and was a collector of all kinds of things.
She is preceded in death by her husband Perry, her daughter Renda Scott, and her grandson Rickie Don Owens.
BJ is survived by her daughter Brenda Ratliff and husband Doug of Maljamar, NM, her son Darrel Henderson and girlfriend Angie of Lampasas, her brother Ronnie Matthews of Artesia, her close friends Alma Hobbs of Eden, and Alvin Gerngross of Olfen, Texas. She is also remembered by her grandchildren Crystal Martin and husband Cody, and Cory Owens and wife Bekki; as well as her great-grandchildren Logan, Bailey, Caleb, and Cameron. BJ will also be greatly missed by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in her name.
The family wishes to thank Concho Health and Rehabilitation and Alma Hobbs for their tender love and care of BJ during her time of need.
Due to the current COVID crisis, a memorial service will be held for BJ at a later date in Artesia, New Mexico.
