Bill Wayne Burks

Billy Wayne Burks, 88, passed away on Friday, November 6, 2020 at home in Buchanan Dam, Texas.

Bill was born in Ballinger, Texas, on November 9, 1931.  He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Mary Burks, two brothers Chester Burks and Sanford Burks, two sisters Mary Loyce Ray, and Mildred Burris, and his son Billy Wayne Burks, Jr.

He is survived by his wife Kay Burks, daughter Sandy Bednar and husband Jimmy, son Roy Burks and wife Linda, daughter Ginny Smith, and sister Francis Bryan.  He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Bill joined the US Marine Corps in February of 1951.  He served in the Korean War and received an honorable discharge in May of 1952.

After separating from the Marine Corps, Bill farmed for several years and then began his career in the oil and gas industry where he worked until his retirement.

Bill was an avid fisherman and loved fishing with friends and family and did so for over 50 years.   He loved fishing on the Rio Grande river and spending time in Big Bend National Park.

Visitation for Bill will be held on Friday November 13, 2020 at Lange Funeral home in Ballinger, Texas from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.  Graveside services will be held at the Norton Cemetery on Saturday November 14, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. with Graham Paterson officiating.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to everyone at Compassus Hospice Care for the love and compassion they extended to Bill and his family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Compassus Hospice Care at 3809 South 2nd Street, Suite B-400, Austin, TX. 78704.
