Bunna Belle (June) Berry Curbo moved to her heavenly mansion from Ballinger Healthcare and Rehab Center on November 27, 2019. She was born on January 31, 1924, near Crews, in Runnels County, Texas. She was the youngest of the six children of William L. and Evaneal McCullough Berry. She attended Norton High School and married Olin Lavaughn Curbo on December 6, 1943, in Ballinger, Texas. They lived in Hobbs, New Mexico, and Lubbock, Texas. Olin preceded June in death on December 17, 1990, after which June returned to Ballinger.
Family and friends meant everything to June. She was always willing to go to the aid of any family member or friend who needed her loving care, and she raised four strong, independent daughters. June was proud of her ten grandchildren and attended eighteen of their graduations, from Colorado Springs to Nashville, Chicago to Orlando. In Ballinger, she delivered for Meals on Wheels and drove friends to the senior center for lunch. June worked at least nineteen unique jobs in her long life, including telephone operator, bookkeeper, soda jerk, taxi driver, and cotton grader. One of June’s distinctive achievements was completing, in order, 52,783 games of FreeCell. She loved the Lord, enjoyed singing old hymns, and was a long-time active member of First United Methodist Church of Ballinger.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; her brothers Eargle, Earl, Charlie, and Lawrence Berry; and her sister Lella Mae Berry Pape. She is survived by her four daughters: Gail Pendleton of Fort Worth, Kay Hancox of Ballinger, Teressa Bruhn and her husband Randy of Logan, New Mexico, and Lavonda Spinnato and her husband Richard of New Braunfels. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Lt. Col. William Pendleton IV, Dr. Russell Pendleton and his wife Katie, Dr. Robin Pendleton Hilling and her husband David, Dr. Katrina Spinnato Quintero and her husband Devin, Micah Hancox, and Kelsey Spinnato; her four step-grandchildren, Kyle Bruhn, Chad Bruhn, Charles Spinnato, and Veronica Spinnato Henderson; twenty-three great-grandchildren; a plethora of nieces and nephews; and her sister-in-law, Elyon Curbo Seal.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday November 30, 2019, at the First United Methodist Church in Ballinger. Burial will follow at the Crews Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crews Cemetery Foundation, Meals on Wheels, or First United Methodist Church of Ballinger.
June’s family wants to thank the wonderful staff at Ballinger Healthcare and Rehab and Ballinger Memorial Hospital for taking care of her so well.
