Catherine Witt Bailey

On April 24, 2023, Catherine Bailey passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones.

Catherine was born on October 10, 1941, in Ballinger, TX to Edna Margaret Keaton and James Albert Witt, completing the family as the youngest of four children. On June 6, 1959, Catherine married the love of her life, Jessie Lee Bailey, and shared over 52 years of marriage together before his passing in 2011. Catherine had a zest for many things in life. She was a skilled seamstress. She made many of the clothes that her children wore, including wedding dresses and uniforms, and created many beautiful quilts. Catherine’s cooking was also a family staple. On holidays she always made sure everyone had their favorite pie and made more elaborate creations for birthdays and weddings.

Catherine loved her God immensely and was a loyal servant of His. Catherine was an active member of Grace Fellowship and served as the secretary of the First Baptist Church on 8 th Street for 5 years. Catherine was a firm believer that through Christ, anything is possible.

Catherine is preceded in death by her parents, James and Edna Witt; her brother, Bert Witt; her sister, Gene McClelland; and her husband, Jessie Bailey.

Catherine is survived by her children: Kay and her husband, Ray Shaffer, of Ozona; her son Michael Bailey of Oakland Park, FL, and his husband, Art Myers; her son Scott Bailey and his wife, Jackie, of Waxahachie; and her daughter Kristy Worthington and her husband, Shane, of Ballinger. She is also survived by her sister, Nell Murphy, of Midland. She will be greatly missed by her 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

A visitation for Catherine will be held at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger, TX on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, from 6:00-8:00 PM. Her funeral service will follow on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church on 8 th Street of Ballinger with Marty Akins officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, also in Ballinger.

The family wishes to thank Central Texas Nursing & Rehab and Ballinger Hospice for their excellent care of Catherine.
