Charles Earl Hensley was born December 31, 1940, in Guthrie, Cottle County, Texas. His parents, Earl Pete Hensley and Pauline Watson Hensley owned a business there and so that was home.
Charles had one brother, Larry Hensley. Charles grew up like most young people in small towns. He played all sports, studied, fished, and hunted. Then he met the love of his life, Daisy Jean Smith, married in 1959, and family life started.
In 1960, Charles joined the Army where he was the Company Clerk. That wasn’t exciting, so he was honorably discharged in 1962. In the meantime, Charles found another love in his life, Paula Jean Hensley, a daughter, born in April 1961. After getting out of the Army, Charles found his true calling for the rest of his career – law enforcement. He became a policeman in Littlefield, Texas in 1962. He made his final career change in January, 1966, when he joined the 85 th session of the U.S. Border Patrol Academy. After years and moves, he proved to be a leader and was honest, dependable, punctual, and always willing to offer assistance. He moved up the ladder and retired as the Deputy Chief of the Marfa Sector in 1993.
Charles made a lot of friends in law enforcement, many who are friends today. He was often seen at the local sheriff’s office having coffee and conversation. He enjoyed competition shooting, being very skilled, and winning many honors over the years. Other interests included woodworking, reloading, hunting, fishing, and good whiskey. He believed that you should hear the gun go off every day. He was also an avid football fan. He was quite the man!
Preceding him in death were his mother and father, wife, and brother.
Surviving him is his daughter Paula Hensley, Leah “Squirt Blossom” and a lot of friends!
A memorial service will be held for Charles on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 2 pm, in the chapel at Lange Funeral Home.
