October 1, 1944 — August 15, 2021

Clarence Edward Schaefer, Jr., 76, of Rowena, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 15, 2021.

He was born on Sunday, October 1, 1944, to Clarence Edward, Sr. and Regina (Kloesel) Schaefer in San Angelo, Texas. Clarence was a hardworking, honest man, and instead of buying his first car, he bought his first tractor.  After graduating in 1963 from Miles High School, he went on to farm the family property.  On August 23, 1969, he married the love of his life, Barbara Schwertner, in San Angelo, and together they shared over 50 years of happy memories.

Clarence was well known in the community for his service with several different organizations, including the Miles Young Farmers Association, the Miles Coop Gin Board for 16 years, the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo for 20 years, and the Rowena VFD. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and an Honorary Chapter Member of the Miles FFA.   He started his pig farm in 1987 and raised and showed pigs for many years with his family.  He enjoyed going to pig shows and stock shows around Texas.  This year his family was awarded the prestigious Family Land Heritage 100 Year plaque from the Texas Department of Agriculture.  He was often seen driving around looking at his crops and comparing them to his fellow farmers’ crops.  His TV was always on a ball game or the RVFD channel.

Clarence is preceded in death by his parents Clarence, Sr. and Regina Schaefer, and his brother Andy Schaefer.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, his son Randy Schaefer, his daughters Sherry Huckabee and husband Richard of Miles, and Brenda Schaefer of Rowena.  Clarence is also survived by his siblings Earl Schaefer, and his sister Joyce Fine and her husband Jimmy.  He will be dearly remembered and loved by his grandchildren Joshua, Danielle, and Ryan Huckabee.  Clarence is lastly survived by his Aunt MaeDell Schaefer, sister-in-law Loretta Schaefer, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The viewing for Clarence will be held all day Thursday, August 19, 2021, at Lange Funeral Home, his rosary and mass will follow on Friday, August 20, 2021.  The rosary will begin at 1:30 pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena, and his Mass of Christian Burial will follow immediately after at 2:00 pm with Father Ariel Lagunilla celebrating.  Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rowena Volunteer Fire Department, Miles Young Farmers, or West Texas Rehab Center in Clarence’s honor.
