David Kevin Kreager

April 7, 1961 — May 2, 2021

David Kevin Kreager, 60, of Ballinger, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, May 2, 2021.   He bravely fought a short battle with lung cancer.

He was born on April 7, 1961, in Glendale, California, the first child of Willis Kreager, Jr. and Joe Ceil (Rowe) Kreager.   He spent his childhood in California, where he attended schools in Canoga Park and Chatsworth.  After graduation, he proudly served in the US Navy as a Seabee, stationed at Port Hueneme, California.

In his 20’s, David moved to Texas, living in San Angelo, Austin, and the Houston area.  David had many talents and spent his adult life exploring these.  He worked as a commercial glazier, conquering his dislike of heights by installing glass in several high-rise buildings in Austin and Houston.  His impressive list of careers included stints in the commercial, hospital, and restaurant industries.

David had an infinite love for all living things and his greatest joy in life was found in rescuing and caring for unwanted or stray animals.  David was fondly referred to as Dr. Doolittle by friends and family and he always found room for just one more animal in his menagerie.

His passion for music developed as a child.  He attended hundreds of concerts and his collection of ticket stubs, photos, guitar picks, drumsticks, and setlists was a source of pride.   He played the piano, guitar, and drums.  David spent many hours reminiscing and listening to his favorite music.

David’s first set of wheels was a Kawasaki motorcycle.  He owned and rode many motorcycles over the years, and spent many hours repairing and restoring classic Kawasakis. He was a member of several online groups, sharing his expertise and trading parts and bikes with these friends.

Some of his other hobbies included bass fishing, hunting and searching for and collecting arrowheads and artifacts.  David was a voracious reader and loved crossword puzzles and trivia.  David flew online WarBirds, a World War II combat flight simulation, with the same group of friends every Sunday night for 15+ years.

He was preceded in death by his father Willis Kreager, Jr., his paternal and maternal grandparents, and his cousin, Jeffrey Lynn Allcorn.  David is survived by his mother, Joe Ceil Kreager, his sister, Teresa Kreager of Ballinger, his brother Christopher and wife Liz Kreager of Bellingham, Washington, his nephews, Nick Kreager and Cody Ischar, and his niece, Anastasia Kreager.   David will be especially missed by his Allcorn cousins and a myriad of friends that are considered extended family.

A Celebration of Life will be held for David on Saturday, May 15th from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm at The River, 940 W. 14th Street, San Angelo, Texas.  If you would like to share a memory, photo, or story of David to be included at the memorial, please email to [email protected] .   For those unable to attend, a link to the memorial will be made available on David’s Facebook page and at ballingerfuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Interim Healthcare Foundation, your local Humane Society, or animal rescue in his honor.
