David Spurgeon Lewis

David Spurgeon Lewis, 72, died August 30, 2019, in San Angelo, Texas.

David was born July 24, 1947, in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Lloyd and Hazel Lewis. He graduated from Ooltewah High School in 1965. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He attended White’s Ferry Road School of Preaching in West Monroe, Louisiana.

During his four-decades of ministry he served the Churches of Christ in Georgia, Tennessee, Colorado, Kansas and Texas. He was serving as the minister at the Bronte Church of Christ in Texas at the time of his death.

David was a skilled carpenter and enjoyed serving friends, loved ones and strangers with his construction expertise.

He married Nicki “Lynn” Judge in San Antonio in January 1967. They had four children and eight grandchildren.

David is survived by his wife Lynn; son Michael (Susan) of Abilene, Texas; daughters Karen (Eric) Cate of Boerne; Janet (Aaron) Chowning of Shanghai, China; Rebecca (Ronny) Eggleston of Abilene; and grandchildren Barrett and Ethan Lewis; Adison and Dawson Cate; Mylen and Aivlyn Chowning; and Everett Eggleston. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Glenda Foy, his brother Eddie Lewis and his granddaughter Mikailyn Amore Chowning.

A memorial service is planned for Monday, September 2, 2019 at the Bronte Church of Christ in Bronte, Texas.
