Don Alan Schroeder passed away peacefully in his home in Eden, Texas Thursday evening December 2, 2021. He was born in San Angelo on February 13, 1939, to Henry F. Schroeder and Nora (Williams) Schroeder. Don and his older brother Berry and younger sister Lynette grew up together on their parent’s farm in Lowake, Texas, and attended first through eighth grades at Lowake School. Don graduated from Paint Rock High School in 1957 and attended San Angelo College in 1958.

Don joined the Army in 1962 and served in the Republic of Vietnam from September 1966 to August 1967 and was awarded the Air Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two campaign stars, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.  After his tour in Vietnam, he was discharged from the Army and returned home to San Angelo where he worked at Gibson’s department store.  In 1970 he moved to Dallas, Texas, and took a job as a property manager at Park’s Investment Company. In the mid-1980’s he led the revitalization of Dallas’ Fair Park area by restoring many blighted historic buildings and attracting many independent artists, restauranteurs, and eclectic retail businesses to the area.  After 30 years with the company, Don retired and moved to his farm in Concho County. In 2001, Don married Barbara Trexler and they ran the farm together for 18 years before moving to Eden.

Don was preceded in death by his brother Berry and his sister Lynette.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, his nephew Eric Schroeder, his niece Julie Schroeder Doniger, two grandnephews Austin Schroeder and Mark Doniger, and grandniece Raleigh Schroeder.

Don’s cremains will be laid to rest in the Protestant Cemetery in Rowena, Texas. The family asks that if you would like to honor the memory of this truly exceptional man, that you please send a donation to Concho Valley PAWS.
