Dorine Elizabeth Cmerek

February 11, 1927 — March 9, 2024

Dorine Elizabeth Braden Cmerek, 97, passed away on March 9, 2024. She was born on February 11, 1927, in Rowena, Texas to Hugo and Eleanor (Dierschke) Braden.  She attended St. Joseph Catholic School and San Angelo Business College.  Dorine married August Cmerek on November 25, 1947.

Together they raised four children in the farming community of Miles, Texas.  Dorine was a member of the St. Theresa Altar Society at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Miles.  She was a Eucharistic Minister to the homebound and was the sacristan for many years.  She truly loved her church and church community.  In December of 2020, Dorine moved to Boerne, Texas to be closer to her daughters.

Dorine was preceded in death by her husband August, her parents, and her siblings, James, Ruby, and Hugo. She is survived by her children, Tommy (Dana), Diane (Fernando) Gorchs, Jean (Dan) Perry, and Kay (Paul) Lampe.  Her grandchildren, Jillian (Buddy) Higgins, Brooklyn Cmerek, Erin Elizabeth (Thomas) Griffin, Samuel (Shaena) Lampe, Benjamin Lampe, Shelby (Hayden) Shinn, Lia Elizabeth Gorchs, and 6 great-granddaughters, Elizabeth Ellen, Lila Brooke, Emmeline Grace, Camille Elizabeth, Lowen Rae, and Lucy Kay.

Throughout her life, Dorine was devoted to her church and family. Everyone who met Dorine was touched by her servant’s heart. No need was too large or too small for her. From assisting with Mass at the nursing home, teaching 4-H classes, cooking August's eggs to perfection, to pressing church linens she could be counted on to respond with a smile. She was always fun, enjoying dance clubs and fall festivals, but she really enjoyed playing dominoes and passed that love to her children and grandchildren.  The bones could be heard rattling late into the night at the annual summer family reunions at Lake Buchanan.  It was always all about the food for Dorine and she enjoyed planning, preparing, and hosting holiday and birthday meals. She spent many hours gardening, quilting, sewing, and let’s not forget about the chickens. Later in life, she enjoyed sitting on her front porch watching the world go by.  Many family members have a special quilt made by her that still makes appearances on chilly evenings.  Dorine had many long-time friends and continued to make new ones after her move to Boerne.  She will be dearly missed by all.

A rosary will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 9:30 a.m., at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Miles, Texas.  Interment will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Rowena, Texas.
