Doris Pearl Richards

December 21, 1929 — May 15, 2021

Doris Pearl Richards, 91, of Winters, Texas passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 15, 2021.

On December 21, 1929, Doris was born to Guymon Oklahoma and Ruth (Miles) Hildebrand in Colorado City.  She married Dolf Richards on October 27, 1951, in Mertzon, and together they shared 58 years before his passing on April 1, 2009.  Doris worked as both a beautician and a nurse.  As a nurse, she served the communities of both Winters and Bronte.  When she wasn’t working, Doris brought lunch and refreshments to Dolf as he worked their crops.   She was famous for cooking mountains of chicken fried steak, fried okra, and potato salad.  Doris served her family in the kitchen to the point that she was right there behind you if you walked into it.  She loved her family dearly and made it her life’s goal to prove it in the way she took care of them.  When Doris and Dolf were able, they loved traveling and looked forward to yearly family reunions.  She loved country dancing and Bob Wells, and they would travel to Turkey, TX yearly for Bob Wells Days.  They had many friends in the community that they would join for country BBQ potluck socials.  She enjoyed going to Dolf’s navy reunions and catching up with lifelong friends.  Doris spent many afternoons in retirement visiting with friends and family over the phone.  They were members of the First Baptist Church in Winters, TX.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband Dolf, her parents Guymon and Ruth Hildebrand, her son Freddy Richards, and her brothers C.A., Dale, Doyle, and Joyce Hildebrand.

She is survived by her son Rodney Richards of Winters, Texas; her grandsons Keith Trevor Richards and wife Stacy of Houston, Guyman Richards and fiancé Brittany of San Angelo, and Rance Richards and wife Hayley also of San Angelo.  Doris will also be greatly missed by her great-grandson Marshall Richards of Houston and her sister Marie Brown.

A visitation for Doris will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger, Texas.  Her graveside service will be held the following day, Thursday, May 20, 2021, at 10:00 am at Ft. Chadbourne Cemetery in Bronte with Myron Halford officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in Doris’s honor.

The family wishes to thank Central Texas Nursing for their love and care.
