Dorthy Miller

Dorthy McMillan Miller, age 94, of Abilene, Texas, passed away Sunday, August 4,2019, at Abilene Regional Medical Center.

She was born February 27, 1925, in Ballinger, Texas, to the late Willard and Beulah Bradshaw McMillan.  She graduated from Ballinger High School in May 1942.  She attended Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas, and North Texas State University, Denton, Texas.

She married Marvin Floyd Miller in Ballinger on October 16, 1947.  For many years she was employed with a Power and Light Company in Ballinger and Abilene, a Real Estate and Investment Firm in Dallas, and with Civil Service in Washington, D.C., retiring after spending 30 years in these business offices.

Her husband, Marvin, preceded her in death in May 2006.  Her five siblings also preceded her in death.

She is survived by two children, her daughter, Meredith Gillum and husband, Randy, and a son, Gary Miller; her grandchildren, Adam Emmert, Gail Miller, and Miranda Vahlenkamp and husband, D. J., Jr.; and two great-grandsons, Braxton and Brock Emmert.

Dorthy was a member of the Church of Christ in Abilene.  She taught Bible classes 35 years, conducted workshops, and remained interested and active in the educational department, as well as helping with many church fellowship events.  She loved the Lord, her family, her extended family, nieces, nephews, and her many friends.

She was an example of Proverbs 31.  Her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life, and they called her blessed.  She was a typical matriarch of the family who kept in touch with so many.

Funeral service will be Friday, August 9, at 2:00 pm at Lange Funeral Home Chapel in Ballinger.  There will be a time of visitation at the funeral home from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon prior to the service.  Burial will be in Ballinger Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made to a church or charity of the donor's choice.
