Edwin Wayne Deike, 79, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2024 at Ballinger Memorial Hospital in Ballinger, TX. He was born on May 10, 1945 in Winters, TX to Fritz and Truman Paschal Deike and was raised on their dairy farm southwest of Winters. He lived his entire life around Winters, except for the 6 months he spent at boot camp in Ft. Polk, LA when he joined the National Guard after graduating from Winters High School
Edwin married Sharon Schwertner on July 5, 1969, in Ballinger TX, and they were blessed with three children – Clint, Stacey and Justin.
Spending most of his working years raising cattle and working in the oilfield, Edwin got his oilfield education on the job and was later a part owner of a pulling unit with his brother Mike. He didn’t take much time off work, but was known to drop a hook in the stock tank while checking his cows. Edwin shared his love of fishing with his kids and grandkids and loved to fry the fruits of his labor for his family to enjoy.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents Fritz and Truman Deike, his brothers - F. O., Michael, and Bobby, his brother-in-law Winford Carey, and father-in-law and mother-in-law Clements (CJ) and Marie Schwertner. He is survived by Sharon, his wife of nearly 55 years, children Clint and his wife Alex Deike of Fulshear, Stacey and husband Eric Jones of Waller and Justin Deike of Winters, his sister Jerrye Carey of Potosi, Grandchildren Karsen Jones and fiancé Grayson Price and Kaden Jones of Waller, Evelyn and Cole Deike of Fulshear, Janson and wife Cherith Jones of Seguin and great grandchildren Eli and Emmitt Jones of Seguin.
A rosary service will be held for Edwin on Monday, July 1, 2024, at 6:00 pm at the chapel at Lange Funeral Home. His Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 10:00 am at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church with Father Tom Barley Celebrating with a meal at the parish hall immediately afterwards. The graveside portion will continue that afternoon at 1:30 pm at Lakeview Cemetery in Winters, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice or St. Mary Star of the Sea Church in Ballinger, Texas.
